Personal Color Analysis: 12 Season Color Analysis
At Color Rx, we use the state of the art, advanced 12 Tone Method. This color analysis system is based on the science of natural color harmony, accurate interpretation of the Munsell color system, full-spectrum light theory, human physiology and psychology to discover your natural color palette.
From Traditional 4 Season Analysis to Advanced 12 Season Analysis
What's the difference between 4 season and 12 season analysis? Human coloring is diverse and beautiful, shaped by our undertones (influenced by the blood flowing beneath our skin) and our natural skin pigmentation.
Traditional color analysis used four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Everyone was placed in either a cool season (Winter or Summer, with blue undertones) or a warm season (Spring or Autumn, with yellow undertones).
We now know that many people's undertones aren't purely cool or warm. They fall somewhere in between, in a neutral zone.
Enter the 12 Season method. Drawing on the colors found in nature, it adds 8 neutral seasons (cool-neutral and warm-neutral) to the original 4. Together, these 12 seasons capture the full range of human coloring. It's truly fascinating!
The 3 Dimensions of Color and the 12 Seasons
Each of the 12 seasons represents a distinct area of color space, defined by the three core properties of color: hue, value, and chroma.
An in-person color analysis shows how your natural coloring responds to specific colors, revealing the hue, value, and chroma that suit you best.
Hue (Temperature): Are you warm (yellow undertones), cool (blue undertones), warm-neutral (mostly yellow with some blue), or cool-neutral (mostly blue with some yellow)?
Value: Do light colors, dark colors, or something in between flatter you most?
Chroma: Do you shine in bright, saturated colors, soft and muted colors, or something in between?
Your Personal Color Analysis at Color Rx Studio
The goal of a personal color analysis is to identify your natural coloring and accurately place it into one of 12 scientifically organized seasons (color palettes).
Your analysis takes place at the Color Rx Studio in Bennington, NE. Against a neutral backdrop and under full-spectrum lighting, I'll guide you through a logical, systematic draping process using calibrated test drapes. Together, we'll watch how each color affects your skin, hair, and eyes. You'll quickly see which colors enhance your natural beauty and which ones work against you. By the end of the session, your personal color palette will be accurately determined.
Once we've found your season, we'll explore the beautiful archival swatch book you'll take home, featuring 65+ colors from your palette, and talk about how to use them when you're shopping or putting together outfits from your closet. If you'd like, I'll also do a quick makeup application in your best shades, and we'll discuss your most flattering hair colors.
You'll leave your Color Rx experience with the confidence and clarity to use your unique palette to your advantage. And this is only the beginning!
